 FIVE MANDATORY TESTING TYPES:

Federal regulations require the following five types of drug and alcohol testing for all covered safety-sensitive employees. TruePath SafeFleet coordinates all five.

1️⃣ PRE-EMPLOYMENT
Required before first safety-sensitive duty. A verified negative result is mandatory before the employee begins work.

2️⃣ RANDOM
Unannounced. Must use scientifically valid random selection. Minimum annual rates set by agency. FMCSA requires 50 percent drugs and 10 percent alcohol annually.

3️⃣ REASONABLE SUSPICION
Based on specific contemporaneous articulable observations by a trained supervisor of behavior — appearance — speech — or body odors.

4️⃣ POST-ACCIDENT
Triggered by qualifying accidents. Strict time limits — alcohol within 8 hours — drugs within 32 hours of accident.

5️⃣ RETURN TO DUTY AND FOLLOW-UP
After violation — SAP evaluation required — negative RTD test mandatory — then minimum 6 unannounced tests in 12 months.
